LinkedIn is a professional social network that allows you to find the right job or internship, connect with other professionals, and strengthen your skills. If you do not have an account, head over to LinkedIn and create one.

Here are some tips to make sure your LinkedIn profile stands out from the competition;

Profile picture – Make sure your profile image is good quality, shows your face, and is up to date.

Cover photo – Although LinkedIn is a professional network; a cover photo can help connections to understand your passions and gives them more insight into who you are.

Location – Ensure you have this updated; leaving an old area on your profile can deter a company from seeing you for an interview if they feel you live too far away.

Headline – This is where you can provide a profile of yourself which helps an employer to discover you quickly.  Ensure this is update to date – with your current job, accurate dates and job description.

Relevant Skills – Make sure you have listed a skill set that aligns with the career that you want.

Summary – Do not be too clinical; create a story about your career journey and provide “snackable” information that will help leverage you profile on the platform.

Recommendations – Ask your colleagues and former colleagues/managers and clients for referrals.
