Writing a Winning CV

Your CV is the first thing that a potential employer judges you on. It needs to create a good first impression, detail your experience and get you an interview!

 

Presentation:

·         Should be typed on A4 Paper

·         Where possible be 2 – 3 pages long

·         Easy to read by using bullets, tabs and bold text

·         Check for spelling and grammar

 

Personal Details:

·         Name, address, contact phone numbers and email address

·         Marital status

·         Nationality and visa details if applicable

·         Driving license

 

Education:

·         Start with most recent and work backwards

·         Detail name and location of school, college or university

·         Include qualifications, grades and dates

 

Profession Skills & Qualifications

·         Include work related training and qualifications achieved

·         Current knowledge of IT systems

·         Languages spoken and level of fluence

·         Any other relevant training

 

Employment History

·         Start with your current or most recent job

·         Include your job title, company name and dates worked

·         Brief description of responsibilities

·         Explain reasons for leaving

·         Any gaps on your CV for example, to travel – should be explained

 

Interests & Hobbies

·         Try to be specific

·         Also include personal achievements

·         Don’t make things up!

 

References:

·         Where possible provide name and contact details

·         References supplied upon request is acceptable for CV purposes
